Healthy Tips for Memorial Day

Memorial Day Family

Memorial Day is a time to honor America’s fallen heroes with family and friends. Whether you’re headed to a parade, a picnic, or a barbecue, it’s important to keep your healthy habits on track. Remember, a healthy body is a happy body!
Eat Well.
It’s a holiday weekend, which means you may overeat without realizing it. That’s why you should make your food choices as healthy as possible and eat clean. By adding extra fruits and veggies to your plate, you can fill up on healthy foods. This way, there’s less room for junk food. Watch your salt and sugar intake. You can even cook a healthy dish or two to share with your family and friends.
Stay Active.
There’s nothing like fun and games on a warm day. So why not get on your feet and break a sweat? It’s good for your heart and a great way to de-stress. From playing sports or hiking to a simple walk around the block, there are so many activities you can do that can include everyone. Plus, staying active can help prevent gas and bloating and can improve your digestion.
Drink Responsibly.
It’s important to drink responsibly at any family or social event. Enjoy a drink or two, but don’t forget to stay hydratedAlcohol can be very dangerous to your health if you don’t know how to drink safely and responsibly. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to replenish any lost fluids, even if you haven’t consumed any alcohol. If you’ve been playing or it’s a warm day, your body is losing water through sweat. Stay cool, and hydrate to keep the fun going.
Keep Your Health Goals.
It’s easy to enjoy the festivities during Memorial Day weekend. As long as you stay mindful, you’ll be just fine. When you eat, drink, and play, don’t forget about your health goals and how to keep them. Don’t give yourself a hard time if you overindulge. Remember, you can always pick up and start again tomorrow.
